Each of our facials begins in the essence and tradition of ancient Japan. The song of the nightingale bird is beloved in Japan, and in addition to its music the nightingale provides us with an unexpected gift. The droppings of these birds does wonders for the complexion! In ancient times, the droppings of the nightingale were essential to remove stains or to bleach out colors creating the designs of Japanese clothing (Kimono). During the Genroku era (1688-1704) it was used to bleach out designs on red undergarments, and to apply the family crest on outer garments as well. While gentle enough to use on the most delicate silk fabric, coupled with its bleaching ability, it has been used to whiten human skin. Kabuki actors and Geishas were the first to use it to repair skin damage caused by use of heavy makeup. It later became popular among wives of nobles, samurai and merchants to cleanse and create beautiful skin. This tradition of old continues today, and is now available to you. As each type of bird differs, so does its diet, and in turn, its droppings. Nightingales are found in plum trees eating hairy caterpillars, their favorite food. The caterpillars fill their stomachs with the green leaves of the plum trees; as the nightingale feeds on the caterpillars, it also consumes chlorophyll and extracts from the plum leaves. The stomach of the nightingale excretes a strong enzyme that digests the worms, however, its intestines are so short that the enzymes come out in the droppings. These enzymes are the secret to beautiful skin! The same enzyme that breaks down protein and fat also dissolves dirt while repairing and whitening damaged skin. The nightingale droppings used today are dehydrated and in powdered form. The texture and smell are left undetectable, leaving only the ingredient to a flawless complexion.

Wailea Special – A combination of the following styles of massage to best suit your personal preferences and needs: LOMI, EUROPEAN, REFLEXOLOGY. This massage is usually medium to firm pressure, although it can be done with a lighter pressure if the guest prefers. (50/80 min)

Lomilomi – The “hula” of massage uses ancient Hawaiian traditional long forearm stokes,  done in a rhythmic dance like the waves of the ocean, to induce deep relaxation. Pressure is medium to firm. (50/80 min)

European – Swedish, German-mostly flat hand, long strokes, or kneading strokes. This massage tends to be the lightest in pressure. Best massage for guests seeking a relaxation massage. (50/80 min)

Shiatsu – Pressure applied to points on the body (meridians) with palms, fingers and thumbs to release tension from the muscles; increases blood circulation and energy. Pressure tends to be firm to deep, but can be done in a medium to light pressure if the guest prefers. Massage is applied through Yukata robe without oil. (50/80 min)

Sports – Whether performed after golf to ease sore muscles, or before to improve your score, Neuro-muscular and trigger point therapy, as well as assisted stretching, helps reduces muscular soreness. Medium to firm pressure. (50/80 min)

Reflexology – Pressure is applied to specific points on the hands and feet. Each point pertains to a different organ of the body, or anatomy (area) of the body. Medium pressure is used. (50/80 min)

Hawaiian Pohaku – Heated smooth stones are used while giving a Lomilomi massage. Pohaku means stone in Hawaiian. The Pohaku are used to carry heat deep into the muscles and joints inducing relaxation and healing. Pressure can vary according to the guest’s preference. (50 min)
