"Poolside Poke" Cooking Class & Tasting

This summer, our popular cooking class heads into the great outdoors with an upscale take on the classic summer barbeque. Join Chef Krista Garcia poolside at The Cabanas where you will learn two different styles of Hawaiian “poke” and perfect your grill skills with Hibachi-seared venison. Sip some local suds and elegant wines then let your inner child loose and enjoy a dessert of gourmet s’mores and Hawaiian ice cake popsicles.

Meet your instructor:

Chef Krista Garcia is a seasoned chef and culinary instructor who resides on Maui, where she arrived in 2015 to assist in opening a farm-to-table concept from decorated Maui chef Jeff Scheer. Following a successful launch, Chef Garcia fed her love for teaching as Baking and Pastry Arts Instructor at the Maui Culinary Academy of the University of Hawaii before combining her passions at Hotel Wailea, Hawaii’s first and only Relais & Chateaux property, where her charisma shines through to guests who participate in her engaging culinary classes or book her private, seven-course custom curated dinners at the property’s Treehouse – a popular experience for which she was recently interviewed for by The Wall Street Journal. In June 2019, Chef Krista will become one of two selected Relais & Chateaux chefs to participate in an honorary Beard House dinner held by the James Beard Foundation’s Smart Catch sustainable seafood program to raise awareness about sustainable seafood during World Ocean Month. Chef Krista’s impressive experience includes working as Pastry Chef de Partie alongside Thomas Keller at his prestigious three-starred Michelin restaurant, The French Laundry, and leading culinary demonstrations and classes at The Napa Valley Cooking School. Since moving to Maui, Chef Krista has embraced local farmers and fisherfolk and developed her menu at Hotel Wailea’s signature culinary concept, The Restaurant, to offer the incredible and distinct flavors of the Hawaiian islands.
